Apple 5G in India: How to get 5G connectivity on your iPhone

Apple iPhone users in India can now make the most of the 5G network in cities that have made the new generation connectivity services available.

The government introduced 5G network earlier this year, promising quicker download speeds alongside low latency. Since the announcement, smartphone brands have gradually been introducing updates that unlock the latest network on their devices.

How to get 5G on your Apple iPhone?

Apple iPhone users can download iOS 16.2 that is currently available for iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and iPhone SE (3). You can check if this update is available for you by looking into your iPhone’s General Settings tab. Note that the update weighs about 1.29GB (depending on your model) and you may have to free up additional space it if required while installing.

After the update installation is complete, head over to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Options. Further, tap on Voice and Data, and here you will be able to choose from two options – 5G On or 5G Auto. The former enables the network even if it comes at the cost of battery life. The latter only enables the 5G network when battery life will not be significantly affected. On following this process, 5G should now work on your iPhone.

Several network providers, such as Jio and Airtel, have begun making 5G services available across five to eight major cities in India. However, both these telecom operators are due to expand across the country early next year and make high-speed internet available for people across India.
